Young Lawyers Contest 2021

The Academy of European Law (ERA) hosted the finals of this year’s Young Lawyers Contest in February, where the international teams competed in an oral debate on fundamental rights, a negotiating exercise on company law and a moot court exercise on criminal law. You can find out more about the results of the former contest here.

If any young members of bar association did not get the chance to take part, ERA will organise a new edition of the contest this year, again with the support of the CCBE and in cooperation with the Warsaw Bar Association. This project is co-funded by the Justice programme of the European Union 2014-2020.

It will offer a unique opportunity for young lawyers across the European Bars represented in the competition to exchange experiences, develop their critical thinking and communication skill, and to foster useful relationships for their future career.

Following a written round, the contest will again be held in as a one-and-a-half day event at ERA’s conference facilities in Trier, Germany, on 4-5 February 2021 for the teams composed of young lawyers from different nationalities to show their oral skills in defending written reports prepared in advance, negotiating exercises and preparing oral pleadings before a jury.

All selected participants will receive a certificate which can be used for continued training hours pending their individual Bar’s approval and a year’s free membership to the Friends of ERA Association which includes a number of benefits such as a discount towards participation fees. The members of the two final teams will receive a voucher to attend an ERA conference of their choice taking place before the end of 2021.

Costs for travel and accommodation of participants selected to participate will be reimbursed. Bars are encouraged to support candidates. Further details on participation, selection procedure, as well as the contest rules can be found on the Young Lawyers Contest web site.

Registration is now open until 1 July 2020.
